Interesting story you link to, but it didn't address your question...who paid OJ's bond??
As the wife of a former bail agent, I know that he posted a $125,000 bond, but he only paid a small percentage of that amount out of pocket. In Louisiana, the rate is 12%; in Texas and most other states it's 10%. (Unless the judge specified a cash bond as opposed to a commercial surety bond.) So, he was out maybe $12,500 or thereabouts.
Not a small chunk of change, mind you, but if a person owned a new-ish SUV or a rental property, it would be pretty easy to borrow.
Or if you were a former NFL-star, you could sell some of your memorabilia...
